Upcoming Events this Wednesday & Thursday!

Pet Valu 2010 Logos

I want to thank Pet Valu for inviting me to appear at their stores for this years’ first “Ask the Trainer” events.  Tomorrow I will be at the Florham Park location from 6-7:30pm and Wednesday at the Madison location also from 6-7:30pm.

Please tell your friends to stop by for some free training help.  And even if your dogs are perfectly trained (HAHA :)) come by anyway just to say hi!

I am so thrilled to have such a great relationship with Pet Valu.  If you are not familiar with Pet Valu you really should check them out.  They have quality products and knowledgeable employees AND they will price match items from any brick & mortar store (as long as the originating store has it in stock).

Plus, the Florham Park location has an awesome self-serve bathing facility where you can wash your dog.  They supply the water, shampoo, towels, and forced air dryer, and it only costs $10!!! Ronan and I use it frequently, as it is the best deal in town!

Looking forward to seeing you at one (or both!) of these events!

At this time no RSVP is required, but we hope that it will become so popular that we will have to implement pre-registration in the future. Chew on This!

a dog and his bone

good chewing

Does your dog enjoy chewing on bones?  I hope so, as this is such a great habit. Chewing is a great stress reliever, boredom buster, anxiety reducer, not to mention it’s great for those pearly whites!

If possible, start early so your dog can develop strong chewing habits that can last a lifetime. Watch when dogs are chewing along side of each other  – sometimes competitive or possessive behaviors can start, especially when they are chewing things that are, or close to, natural animal flesh.  If your dog shows aggressive behavior while chewing please be sure to get help from a professional.

Happy Chewers!

ALWAYS monitor children when your dog is chewing on a bone. Kids must be taught to be especially respectful of a dog while chewing.

My 3 favorite chew toys to recommend are raw bones, antlers, and durable Nylabones. Of course there may be reasons why one or more of these aren’t appropriate for YOUR dog.  Bully sticks, which the pet stores will push on you (HUGE profits for them, and yes the dogs love them) should be a once in a while treat.  They’re a treat to eat and don’t offer the same chewing benefits as real CHEW toys.

As always, check with your veterinarian and do your very best to keep everyone safe!

Happy Chewing!
