Thanks to all who came out to support Mutts Mania at Lurker Park this past Sunday! It was a beautiful day and many friends, old and new, stopped by to visit our tent. The 50/50 was over $5,700 so the Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter got a financial boost, and helped some dogs in need connect with their new families.

How much do you talk to your dog? It seems to be a common topic with my clients these days. When you are training make sure you are giving clear, simple commands to your dog, not having a conversation.
You can’t say: “sit, sit down, hey, come here (name), sit, where are you going…” and expect that your dog will respond – especially if you don’t follow through and make him do it! Keep it simple (stupid). Give a simple command and follow through until your dog responds. Stay calm and if you need to repeat the command, use the same tone of voice that you started with. Don’t risk teaching your dog that you have to yell to make him respond.
Dogs are not robots. They do not automatically know what we are thinking or what we want. Don’t over-talk to your dogs. If you do, all they will hear is “Blah, blah blah”!
