It’s a Dog Show!!!

Best in Show

Thanks to all who stopped out to visit us at the Twin Brooks Kennel Club Dog Show!  I really enjoy dog shows, even if I’m not showing a dog at the moment.

This year was great.  I won’t bore you with all the LONG details, but each day had a different winner.  The first was a beautiful Irish Setter, shown here.

The second day,  a French Bulldog took Best in Show.  Obviously, these are two very different breeds of dogs, but both are beautiful in their own way, and each was the closest match to the AKC breed standard according to their respective judges.

If you look at this picture of the two Bulldogs, you might think that they are being judged against each other.  In fact, each is being judged separately against the AKC breed standard. Whichever the judge thinks more closely represents the breed standard is the one put up by the judge.

At the end of the day, you get to see so many dogs representing many breeds and get some understanding of the history behind your breed(s).

Don’t knock dog show people.  They are trying their best to help dogs in general by breeding to a standard and eliminate genetic health issues, to the best of their ability.
